La tragedia afectó puntualmente las minas La Golondrina, El Eléctrico, Los Chocos, La Llanada, Los Hoyos, El Pedregal y La Esperanza, que forman parte del sistema de 46 bocaminas (varias interconectadas) y donde se trabaja en turnos de 6:00 a.m. a 1:30 p.m. y de 1:30 p.m. a 8:00 p.m. Pasada esa hora ingresa el grupo de mantenimiento, que fue el más afectado.
