El primer mandatario de Guyana  Irfaan Ali asegura que su país está listo de cualquier forma para un enfrentamiento con Venezuela, sea diplomático o militar. “Nuestro estado de preparación está basado sobre el derecho internacional, la diplomacia y siguiendo los lineamientos y reglas internacionales en esta controversia.

The first president of Guyana Irfaan Ali assures that his country is ready in any way for a confrontation with Venezuela, be it diplomatic or military. “Our state of preparation is based on international law, diplomacy and following international guidelines and rules in this controversy.

Por supuesto, hemos construido alianzas con nuestros amigos y en todos esos frentes estamos trabajando. Tenemos cooperación mejorada de defensa con muchos de nuestros aliados y la seguridad de que muchos de ellos van a estar de nuestro lado”, dijo el presidente a la revista SEMANA.

Por otro lado en vista de las tensiones en suramerica,  Estados Unidos anunció que realizará ejercicios militares en Guyana, en medio de las tensiones entre ese país y Venezuela por la región del Esequibo. Tras el referendo del domingo en el que los venezolanos se expresaron a favor de anexionarse la zona bajo litigio, Guyana solicitó al Consejo de Seguridad de Naciones Unidas una reunión, que se celebrará este viernes. Por su parte, el presidente venezolano, Nicolás Maduro, ha ordenado ya a la petrolera estatal comenzar a entregar licencias para extraer crudo, mientras se prepara una ley para crear una provincia venezolana en la zona en disputa.
